VISITOR VISAS – SUBCLASS 600, 601 & 651

If you intend to visit Australia for a holiday, see family and friends, or engage in a short business trip, you must apply for an Australia Travel Visa. There are three types of Australian visitor visas, and the applicable visa depends on your country of origin:

  1. Visitor Visa Subclass 600
  2. Electronic Travel Authority Visa Subclass 601
  3. eVisitor Subclass 651

Differences Between Visitor Visas: While all three visas allow travel to Australia for purposes such as tourism, family visits, or business activities without involving employment, there are slight distinctions among them.

  • Subclass 600 Visa: Suitable for various travel needs, it accommodates individuals visiting Australia for up to three, six, or 12 months. It includes streams for tourist, business visitor, frequent traveller, sponsored family, and approved destination status.
  • Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) Visa Subclass 601: For multiple visits within a 12-month period, especially suitable for tourists or business visits lasting up to three months each time. Limited to passport holders of certain countries.
  • eVisitor Subclass 651: Allows three-month visits within a 12-month period for tourism or business purposes. This is a free visa available only to eVisitor passport holders of specific countries.

Requirements for Each Visa:

For Tourist Visitor Visa (Subclass 600):

  • Demonstrate genuine intent for tourism, recreation, or visiting family and friends.
  • Have private health insurance.
  • Declare any criminal convictions and clear outstanding debts to the Australian Government.
  • Apply either within or outside Australia based on your location.

For Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) Visa Subclass 601:

  • Passport holder from an eligible country
  • Before applying, ensure eligibility by meeting health insurance requirements and declaring criminal convictions and debts.

 

For eVisitor Subclass 651:

  • Have private health insurance.
  • Declare criminal convictions and clear outstanding debts to the Australian Government.
  • Intend to visit Australia temporarily for tourism or business.
  • Apply from outside Australia.
