TEMPORARY SKILLED SHORTAGE (TSS) 482 VISA

The Temporary Skilled Shortage (TSS) Visa Subclass 482 is intended for skilled workers and their families seeking to live and work in Australia under the sponsorship of an approved business. The visa permits a temporary residency and working period from one to four years, depending on the listing of the nominated occupation – whether it is listed as regional, short term or medium term.

Businesses, both in Australia and overseas, can sponsor individuals for this visa if they are unable to find a suitable Australian citizen or permanent resident to fill the skilled position.

The application process involves three key steps: sponsorship approval for an eligible business, nomination for an eligible occupation, and submission of the visa application. A skills assessment may be required depending on the nominated occupation.

Standard Business Sponsorship

To become an approved sponsor, businesses can either be a standard business sponsor or have negotiated a labour agreement with the Australian Government. Essential criteria include lawful operation within or outside Australia and a clean record without adverse information affecting sponsorship.

For standard business sponsorship, initiate the process by submitting an application for this visa category. Note that you can only hold one standard sponsorship at a time, valid for five years. However, you can extend this by submitting a variation application.

Additional sponsor requirements vary based on the business’s location, details of which we will discuss during a scheduled free consultation.

For businesses operating within Australia, a written statement declaring non-discriminatory recruitment practices and a strong record of employing local labour is necessary.

If your business operates outside Australia, you must demonstrate the intent to employ a skilled worker to establish business operations within Australia or fulfil contract obligations.
